Personal Statement

The personal statement is an important part of your application package. Depending on the topic you choose, the essay you write provides additional evidence of your intellectual and creative achievement. The essay is also the only opportunity for the readers of your application to get a feel for you as a person as well as for you as a student. The essay is also the place where you can put your academic record into the context of your opportunities and obstacles. They are a requisite to apply for US,UK,Canada and postgraduate programs in Australia.

There is no one correct way to write a personal statement, but in general those who will read your essay are looking for two important things:

• HOW the essay provides evidence of your achievements that isn't reflected in other parts of your application

• HOW and WHY the events that you describe have shaped your attitude, focus, and, most of all, your intellectual vitality.

The personal statement generally falls into one of two categories:

1. The general, comprehensive personal statement

2. The response to very specific questions: Often, business and graduate school applications ask specific questions, and your statement should respond specifically to the question being asked. Some business school applications favor multiple essays, typically asking for responses to three or more questions.

Questions to ask yourself before you write :

  • What's special, unique, distinctive, and/or impressive about you or your life story?
  • What details of your life (personal or family problems, history, people or events that have shaped you or influenced your goals) might help the committee better understand you or help set you apart from other applicants?
  • When did you become interested in this field and what have you learned about it (and about yourself) that has further stimulated your interest and reinforced your conviction that you are well suited to this field? What insights have you gained?
  • How have you learned about this field—through classes, readings, seminars, work or other experiences, or conversations with people already in the field?
  • If you have worked a lot during your college years, what have you learned (leadership or managerial skills, for example), and how has that work contributed to your growth?
  • What are your career goals?
  • Are there any gaps or discrepancies in your academic record that you should explain (great grades but mediocre LSAT or GRE scores, for example, or a distinct upward pattern to your GPA if it was only average in the beginning)?
  • Have you had to overcome any unusual obstacles or hardships (for example, economic, familial, or physical) in your life?
  • What personal characteristics (for example. integrity. compassion. persistence) do you possess that would improve your prospects for success in the field or profession? Is there a way to demonstrate or document that you have these characteristics?
  • What skills (for example, leadership, communicative, analytical) do you possess?
  • Why might you be a stronger candidate for graduate school—and more successful and effective in the profession or field than other applicants?
  • What are the most compelling reasons you can give for the admissions committee to be interested in you?

Please do not engage in plagiarism and use essays from the internet resources for personal use.

Medical Education in India and US at Par

The United States has said India's recognition system for under-graduate medical courses is at par with theirs, an achievement that could facilitate mobility of doctors from here to US.
National Committee on Accreditation in the US, the apex body responsible for foreign accreditation, has granted parity to the recognition system in India for the courses.
"The  MCI had sought parity status from the National Committee on Accreditation.

It was granted last month, which means quality wise, the under-graduate courses in India are at par with the US," Dr Vedprakash Mishra, Vice-Chancellor, Datta Meghe Institute of Medical Sciences University, who was part of the MCI team to negotiate with the US agency, told reporters at the Indo-US Healthcare Summit here.

The parity has been granted for two years. "During this period, our recognition system will be monitored by them. Then India will get permanent parity status," he said.

 Career Spotlight

                   Careers in Animation

Animators draw a series of images that are filmed to create moving cartoons for film and television. They give flat, two-dimensional drawings the illusion of life. They are part storytellers, part drafters, and part filmmakers. Putting together an animated feature is a complicated process that typically involves a large team of artists. An animator working on a team is usually responsible for only one aspect of the animation. This is particularly true at large companies.

Computer animators manipulate graphics to create the illusion of movement. The projects in which computer animators are involved range from simple manipulations of existing film, cartoon, or other graphics, to the creation of entire three-dimensional (3-D) worlds. Entertainment industry and Video games are areas where you can see the work of computer animators.

Computer animation is also used to simulate scientific ideas or processes that could never be clearly shown in reality; for example, the bonding of two atoms too tiny for the eye to see, or the rotation of the solar system. Architectural firms employ computer animation to create realistic, 3-D models of structures that allow the potential buyer to take a virtual tour of a building before a single brick is laid.

You can enrol into a certificate/diploma/ bachelor programs in fine arts/ visual communication/multimedia course to sharpen your skills and seek a career in the creative arts field. You will be sourced out for positions in advertisement, web designing, entertainment, media, games technology and any other section requiring art and design. So the opportunities are manifold. The Institute of Multimedia, Arts  and graphic effects is one example in Dubai that offers relevant courses.
